Black Friday 2026
How to pay less on Black Friday in Australia
Black Friday is Friday 27 November. Here is what actually gets discounted, where to buy it, and how to put several discounts on top of each other on the one purchase.
Need to know
- Black Friday is Friday 27 November 2026. Cyber Monday is 30 November, and it is usually the same sale rather than a second one.
- Last year's real discounts started at about 26% off. A saving under about 25% is an ordinary price with a sticker on it.
- Discounts stack. A discounted gift card, a platform coupon and a price-beat guarantee each work on a different part of the same transaction.
- The biggest single saving at the counter is the one you decline: the extended warranty.
The dates, including the sale most people miss

Two of those are worth knowing about. Click Frenzy's Main Event is a full sale a month before Black Friday, so if your item is cheap in late October you do not need to wait for November. And Cyber Monday is generally the same sale continuing rather than a second one, with prices much the same across the four days. Amazon Australia has not published a start date and usually does not until about a week out. Its sale started roughly ten days early in 2025 and ran about two weeks. The practical point is that this is a five-week window rather than a day: treating 27 November as the moment to decide is how people pay the Friday price for something that was cheaper a month earlier.
What actually gets discounted the most

No Australian body publishes data on how deep Black Friday discounts go. What does exist is a record of what was really on sale last November, with the price before, the price after and the shop it came from.
| Category | Product | Was | Sale | Saving |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Large-screen TVs | TCL C7K, 75 inch | $2,999 | $1,628 | 46% |
| Premium OLED TVs | LG C5, 65 inch | $4,295 | $2,497 | 42% |
| Over-ear headphones | Bose QuietComfort SC | $499.95 | $269.95 | 46% |
| Soundbars | Samsung HW-Q990F | $1,999 | $1,195 | 40% |
| Wireless headphones | Sony WH-1000XM6 | $699.99 | $492.99 | 30% |
| Home cinema speakers | Sonos Beam Gen 2 | $799 | $537 | 33% |

So the rule of thumb is a single number. If the saving is under about 25%, treat it as an ordinary price with a sticker on it. That is our reading of the figures above rather than an official benchmark, and it will not hold for every category. It holds well enough to stop you paying full freight for something labelled a sale.
Clothing, toys, laptops and phones are not in the table because we could not find a record of last year's actual Australian before and after prices for them. Plenty of sites publish percentages for those categories. The ones we checked turned out to be the publisher's own estimate rather than prices anybody observed.
Last year is a benchmark, not a forecast. Use it to judge an offer in front of you rather than to predict one that has not appeared yet.
Where to buy it

Pick the shop by what it actually gives you, not by whose sale banner is loudest.
| Platform | What it gives you | The detail that decides it |
|---|---|---|
| Bunnings | Beats a qualifying competitor price by 10% | Same in-stock item, GST and delivery included. In store you show a catalogue, photo or screenshot. Online you take it to Customer Support with the product name, item number and a link. Marketplace sellers, trade quotes, liquidations and commercial quantities are excluded |
| Officeworks | Beats a cheaper price by 5% | Officeworks says it will beat a cheaper price on an identical stocked item by 5%. The full conditions sit behind the asterisk on that page, so read them before you rely on it |
| eBay Australia | A sitewide coupon on top of the seller's price | In 2025 the codes took 20% off, or 22% for eBay Plus members, capped at $300 a transaction. Eligible categories only, and the discount does not apply to postage |
| Amazon Australia | Deepest cuts on its own devices | Those usually start 24 to 48 hours before everything else. Amazon does not sell televisions in Australia |
| JB Hi-Fi, The Good Guys, Appliance Central | Where the deep TV and audio cuts landed | The 46% television and the 42% television in the table above both came through this group of retailers last year |
| Click Frenzy | A calendar, not a shop | Useful for seeing who is running what, and for the Main Event in late October |
One warning outranks all of that. A CHOICE shadow shop found matched prices that were still higher than simply buying at the cheaper shop, and described these guarantees as riddled with conditions. Find out what it actually sells for elsewhere first. Then decide whether going 5 or 10% under it is worth the trip.
And on any platform, buy from the retailer rather than a marketplace seller trading inside it. On a big-ticket item the seller is who you go back to when it fails, and a marketplace listing is excluded from the Bunnings guarantee anyway.
How to stack the discounts
Discounts stack in a fixed order. Each layer sits on top of the one before it, so the order you do them in changes what you pay.

Layer one happens before the sale, not during it
Write down what each thing on your list costs today, with the date. That number is your benchmark, and it is the only one nobody can quietly adjust the week before Black Friday.
Know the real price
Write down what your item costs today, with the date. Then check its price history rather than the shop's own crossed-out price. The OzBargain community keeps a running list of tracking tools: BuyWisely for Australian online stores, CamelCamelCamel and Keepa for Amazon, ShopAround for the major supermarkets. If the chart shows the item has been sitting at the sale price for three months, the sale price is just the price.
Buy the gift card before you buy the thing
Supermarkets discount multi-brand gift cards on a rolling weekly cycle, and Coles has been running 10% off the Ultimate range in store, limit five per customer. Ultimate Him covers JB Hi-Fi, The Good Guys and Mitre 10. Ultimate Teens and Students cover Officeworks and JB Hi-Fi.
Two details decide whether this is worth doing. Online, those retailers each accept one card per order and it has to cover the whole amount, so for a big purchase either use the cards in store or buy a single card large enough. And most gift cards sold since November 2019 carry a minimum three-year expiry, so a card bought in October is still good in late November. There are exemptions, and the date printed on the card is what counts.
Take the platform coupon
On eBay this is the sitewide code. The arithmetic matters more than the percentage: a 20% code capped at $300 only pays the full 20% up to $1,500. Above that the effective rate falls, so a $3,000 item put through a single transaction is really a 10% discount. Last year's terms allowed five transactions per person, which is the answer for anything expensive enough to hit the cap.
Then ask for the price beat
Bunnings and Officeworks compare the delivered price, and so should you. A $40 difference on the shelf reverses once one retailer charges $55 to bring it to your door. Screenshot the cart with postage showing, not the product page.
Decline the extended warranty
This is the biggest single saving at the counter and it costs you nothing to take. Australian Consumer Law gives you automatic consumer guarantees whether or not a business sells you a warranty, and the ACCC says those guarantees have no specific expiry date. CHOICE's verdict on buying extended cover is that in most cases you probably do not need it, partly because most policies only start once the manufacturer's warranty has already ended. On a fridge or a television that upsell is usually a few hundred dollars.
What changed this year

YouGov's Australian sales research, published in October, found that 35% of likely Black Friday shoppers struggle to tell whether a discount is genuine. It was the single most common complaint about the sales, ahead of stock and delivery.
The regulator is mid-investigation, not just mid-warning
After the 2025 sales the ACCC reviewed 50 businesses and found practices it described as concerning at about half of them. Deputy Chair Catriona Lowe said retailers appear to be increasingly relying on tactics that manipulate consumers.
Two more penalties landed in September
James Lane paid $19,800 for running a Black Friday discount a week past its advertised end date. Vuly paid $39,600 after countdown timers expired and were reset while the discount carried on. The ACCC told retailers to review their sale advertising before 27 November.
Prime got more expensive right before the sale
Amazon lifted Australian Prime membership to $12.99 a month or $99 a year, up from $9.99 and $79. Existing members keep the old rate until their first renewal on or after 25 November, two days before Black Friday. If you are weighing it up purely for this weekend, the Black Friday sale itself is not Prime-exclusive.
The question that comes before all five

Are you buying this because it is cheap, or because you need it? Those are two different purchases and they deserve different rules.
- You need it, and it can wait.
This is the case Black Friday genuinely rewards. Everything above applies, in order.
- You are buying it because it is cheap.
The discount is not a saving. Money spent on something you had not planned to buy is money spent, whatever percentage sits next to it.
- It has already broken.
Then you are solving a problem, not shopping a sale, and the sale is irrelevant to your timing. Price the repair against the replacement and buy the right thing rather than the discounted thing.
Black Friday FAQs
When is Black Friday 2026 in Australia?
Friday 27 November 2026. Cyber Monday is 30 November and Travel Tuesday is 1 December. Many retailers open early access from around 20 November, and Click Frenzy's Main Event runs 27 to 30 October. Black Friday is not a public holiday in Australia. It follows the United States Thanksgiving date, the fourth Thursday of November.
How much is actually taken off in the Black Friday sales in Australia?
Across the Australian Black Friday 2025 discounts recorded with both a before and an after price, savings ran from about 26% to just over 60% depending on the category. Televisions sat between 26% and 46%, headphones between 30% and 46%, and some kitchen appliances went deeper. A saving under about 25% is not a Black Friday price.
Which Australian stores have the best Black Friday deals?
It depends on the category rather than the store. For televisions and audio, the deepest cuts recorded in 2025 came through JB Hi-Fi, The Good Guys and Appliance Central. For anything stocked at Bunnings or Officeworks, those two will go 10% and 5% under a qualifying competitor price, which can beat the headline sale.
Is Black Friday or Boxing Day cheaper in Australia?
No Australian source publishes a reliable comparison of discount depth between the two, so any single answer is an estimate. The practical method is to look up your exact model on a price-history tool and see what it did last November and last December.
Can you stack Black Friday discounts in Australia?
Often, yes. A discounted gift card, a platform-wide coupon and a price-beat guarantee each work on a different part of the transaction. Order matters: establish the real price, buy the gift card, apply the coupon, then ask for the price beat.
Is Amazon Prime worth it for Black Friday?
The Amazon Australia Black Friday sale is not Prime-exclusive. Prime now costs $12.99 a month or $99 a year, up from $9.99 and $79, with existing members keeping the old rate until their first renewal on or after 25 November 2026. Amazon also does not sell televisions in Australia.
